Piece & Quilt with Precuts: Windows Quilt

I'm absolutely grateful for the opportunity to participate in Christa Watson's blog hop to celebrate the release of her third book: Piece and Quilt with Precuts.

I've been working on a quilt project lately for art quilts to auction off for help funding my service dog and training.  I took a break, partly because of a 14+ year old cat who enjoys getting in the way, and also because I was afforded a fantastic opportunity of participating in this blog hop.

Let's get to it!

The palette for my quilt started with a canvas that is on the wall of my bedroom.  This is the inspiration for some of the colors in my quilt.  The canvas is a reprint of artwork by Deann Hebert.

I had one of my favorite views while I worked on this quilt.  My sewing machine faced the marina in Westport.  I just love watching the fishing boats go in and out.

I left all my supplies at home except my machine and thread snips...wouldn't you know I ended up one 7.5"-strip short.  Math is hard!!

My quilt isn't finished because I'm going to hand quilt it using Aurifil 12wt thread.  I am going to use a beautiful lavender color thread for contrast on the black background fabric.  I love taking the time to hand quilt with big stitches because I can keep my hands moving, which is sometimes difficult with multiple sclerosis.  Making big stitches is my self-prescribed occupational therapy.  Much better than picking up spilled paper clips in a doctor's office.

This pattern is a lot of fun and easy to do.  I bet it would be quicker and easier using precuts, but I worked with my scrap stash and yardage.  This project is perfect for chain piecing.

I hope you enjoy the blog hop and take the time to see what other quilters are doing.
